Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 (6 1/2 oz.) pkg. pitted dates, cut up
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
  • 1/2 c. orange juice
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans

Directions

    Pour boiling water over dates and shortening.

    Cool to room temperature.

    Add orange peel and juice; stir in egg.

    Add dry ingredients, stirring just until mixed.

    Stir in nuts.

    Bake in loaf pan.

    Grease and flour pan or line with paper.
