- 2 c. self-rising flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 60 g. (2 oz.) butter
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3/4 c. finely chopped dates
- 1 egg
- approximately 1/2 c. milk
Directions

1Sift flour and salt.

2Rub in butter until mixture resembles fine bread crumbs.

3Stir in dates and sugar.

4Beat egg and add to dry ingredients with sufficient milk to give soft dough.

5Place on floured surface and knead lightly.

6Pat out to approximately 1 cm. (1/2-inch) using a 5 cm. (2-inch) floured cutter, cut into rounds. Place onto lightly greased over tray.

7Glaze tops with milk. Bake in a very hot oven 12 to 15 minutes.

8Makes approximately 12 scones.
