- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. warm water
- 5 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- melted butter or margarine
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water; set aside.

2Combine dry ingredients; cut in shortening with pastry blender until resembles coarse meal.

3Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to dry ingredients and mix well.

4Turn dough out on a floured surface; knead lightly 4 to 5 times.

5Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness.

6Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter.

7Place on greased baking sheet.

8Brush tops with melted butter.

9Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes.

10Makes 3 1/2 dozen biscuits.

11May freeze leftovers.

12Wrap in foil to reheat at 350° for 15 minutes.

13Open foil last 5 minutes.
