- 2 c. sugar
- 2 c. strong coffee
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 c. raisins
- 1 apple, peeled and grated
- 1 c. chopped walnuts
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. each: cinnamon, allspice, cloves and nutmeg
Directions

1In a large saucepan, simmer the first five ingredients for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2Cool 10 minutes. Blend together the remaining ingredients and stir into mixture.

3Pour into a well-greased and floured 13 x 9-inch pan.

4Bake at 350° for 25 to 30 minutes.

5Cool and dust with powdered sugar, if desired.
