Ingredients: 1 sq. chocolate; 1/2 c. sweet milk; 1 egg yolk; 1/2 c. sugar; 1/2 c. butter; 1 c. white sugar; 2 egg yolks; 3 egg whites; 1 tsp. vanilla; 1 c. sour milk; 2 c. flour; 1 level dessert spoon soda

1/2 c. sweet milk
1 egg yolk
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 c. white sugar
2 egg yolks
3 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. sour milk
2 c. flour
1 level dessert spoon soda

Directions

Cook chocolate, sweet milk, 1 egg yolk and 1/2 cup sugar together until thick like cream.

Cool.

Cream butter and sugar; add egg yolks.

Dissolve soda in milk and add, then add mixture from preceding.

Add flour a small amount at a time, mixing well each time.

Add flavoring and fold in beaten egg whites and bake in layers.

Makes 3 (8 1/2 x 1-inch) layers.
