- 4 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 c. milk
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg; add sugar. Mix to a light soft dough with beaten egg, milk, melted shortening and vanilla.

2Turn onto floured board; roll 1/2-inch thick.

3Cut with doughnut cutter and cook about 3 minutes in deep, hot fat (360° to 375°), turning as they rise to top of fat.

4Drain on paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

5Makes 3 dozen.
