- 2 c. milk
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 c. melted butter
- 1 yeast cake dissolved in warm water
- 1 c. sugar
- 6 or 7 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Directions

1Scald the milk and set aside to cool.

2To the dissolved yeast add 1/2 cup of flour and mix to batter.

3Add to the milk which has been scalded and allowed to become lukewarm.

4Stir in 1 teaspoon sugar and about 3 cups flour.

5Set in warm place to rise overnight.

6In the morning, add the eggs, nutmeg, butter, sugar and salt; mix thoroughly.

7Stir enough flour until batter can no longer be stirred with a spoon.

8Set aside to rise.

9Roll on well floured board and cut with doughnut cutter.

10Let rise again and fry until golden brown.
