Ingredients

  • 2 c. cake flour
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 pinch nutmeg
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Cream the butter, salt and sugar; add the egg and milk.

    Work in lightly flour and baking powder sifted together.

    Roll out to about 1/4-inch thickness on towel or floured board.

    Cut with a doughnut cutter and fry in Crisco or oil.

    Doughnuts should come quickly to the surface of the fat.

    When browned on one side, turn them over on the other side.

    Drain on unglazed paper and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
