- 5 1/4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 c. milk
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 6 Tbsp. melted shortening
Directions

1Sift flour, then measure.

2Sift dry ingredients together.

3Add beaten eggs and milk.

4Stir lightly and add melted lard.

5Roll on floured board to 1/2-inch thickness.

6Cut with floured doughnut cutter.

7Drop into hot lard and turn as doughnuts come to the top. Continue frying until doughnuts are golden brown.

8Drain on absorbent paper.

9Yields 4 dozen doughnuts.
