  • 6 cups water
  • 1 ham hock
  • 2 tablespoons lard or 2 tablespoons bacon grease
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, rinsed, trimmed and snapped into bite size pieces

Directions

    Combine the water, ham hock, and lard in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add seasoning salt, salt, pepper, garlic and onion.

    Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and add green beans and simmer covered for about 2 hours.

    You can choose to cook in a crock pot for 12 to 18 hours on low.
