  • 1 pt. fresh strawberries, sliced, or 10 oz. frozen
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 (8 1/2 oz.) can crushed pineapple, sweetened
  • 1 (9 oz.) yellow cake mix
  • 1/3 c. (2/3 stick) butter or margarine, melted
  • 1/2 c. coarsely cut nuts

    Melt butter or margarine in a 1-cup glass measure (50% power) for about 4 minutes.

    In cake dish, spread the strawberries evenly; sprinkle fresh ones with sugar, then spoon on the pineapple (with juice).

    Sprinkle cake mix evenly over fruit, then the nuts. Drizzle melted butter as evenly as possible over all.

    Set cake dish on an inverted oven glass pie plate to raise it a little nearer oven center.

    Cook on High (uncovered), about 10 minutes, giving dish a quarter turn twice during cooking.

    Mixture should be boiling throughout.

    Add a light sprinkle of grated nutmeg at this time.
