Easy Make Dill Pickles

Ingredients

  • 40 or more small cucumbers
  • 6 heads dill or 3 (2 inch) pieces dill stalks per jar
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 5 thin onion slices
  • pinch of crushed pepper
  • alum
  • 1 qt. vinegar (white)
  • 2 qt. water
  • 3/4 c. salt (canning)

Directions

    Sterilize 6 quart jars; have lids ready.

    Place 1 head dill, 1 slice onion, 1 clove garlic, pinch of crushed pepper and 1/4 teaspoon alum in each jar bottom, then pack with cucumbers, leaving space at top.

    Bring to boil water, vinegar and salt. Pour over cucumbers in jar while still hot.

    Seal.
