Ingredients

  • 5 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 1 c. tap water
  • 1 c. milk, scalded
  • 2 pkg. Fleischmann's granulated yeast
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/4 c. warm water

Directions

    Sift flour and 1/3 cup of sugar.

    Cut in shortening until it resembles cornmeal.

    Scald milk and add tap water. Dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in 1/4 cup lukewarm water.

    Add to flour mixture.

    Add water and milk (when cool).

    Mix well.

    Place dough on floured surface and knead.

    Place back in bowl and let rise until double in size.

    Knead again and refrigerate until ready to use.

    Roll out, shape and let rise 2 to 3 hours.

    Bake at 350° until golden brown.
