  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. whole milk with 1 c. hot water
  • 7 c. flour

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Add 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Let stand while you cream fat, sugar and egg. Then add whole milk into which you have poured the hot water. When tepid, add yeast mixture, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and flour. Knead until smooth and let rise until double in size. Shape into rolls and let rise again. Bake at 425° for 15 to 20 minutes. This can be kept in refrigerator for a week.
