- 2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
- 2 1/4 tsp. Calumet baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. butter or other shortening
- 1 1/3 c. sugar
- 3 eggs, unbeaten
- 2/3 c. milk
- 3/4 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 tsp. almond extract
Directions

1Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder and salt and sift three times.

2Cream shortening thoroughly; add sugar gradually and cream together until light and fluffy.

3Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

4Add flour, alternately with milk, a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth.

5Add flavorings.

6Bake in 2 greased 9-inch layer pans in moderate (375°) oven for 25 to 30 minutes.

7Spread chocolate frosting between layers and over cake.
