Ingredients

  • 2 lb. chili meat
  • 1/2 c. cooking oil
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 2 small onions, chopped
  • 1 medium green pepper, chopped
  • 5 to 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 4 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 4 to 5 medium jalapeno peppers, chopped
  • cayenne pepper

Directions

    In a large skillet, braise meat in 1/4 cup oil until brown. Transfer meat to large kettle or electric slow cooker, leaving liquid in skillet.

    Add water and tomato sauce to meat, cook over low heat.

    Saute onion, green pepper and garlic in remaining 1/4 cup of oil and liquid in skillet.

    Add remaining dry ingredients. Simmer about 30 minutes, then transfer to kettle.

    Simmer about 2 hours.

    Dip off grease that settles on top.
