- 1 cup figs california dried
- 2 cups flour, all-purpose sifted
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 2 cups whole wheat flour whole wheat
- 4 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 1/2 cup milk sour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cups walnuts coarsely chopped
Directions

1Cover figs with boiling water, let stand 10 minutes, drain and dry on towel.

2Clip stems and cut figs into thin strips.

3Sift white flour with baking powder, salt and sugar.

4Add whole wheat flour and stir to blend.

5Work butter into flour mixture.

6Add sour milk in which soda has been dissolved and mix.

7Add beaten eggs, nuts and figs, and beat.

8Pour into a paper-lined loaf pan (about 10x5x3 inches).

9Bake in moderate oven (350 F.) about 1 hour and 25 minutes.

10Serve hot with butter, or cool and slice very thin for tea sandwiches.

11Makes excellent toast when one or two days old.
