Foolproof Crumble

Ingredients

  • 225 grams whole meal or plain flour
  • 115 grams butter
  • 115 grams soft brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 large cooking apples ( or enough fruit to cover bottom of dish)
  • 80 grams caster sugar
  • 1/2 lemon: juice and zest
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon

Directions

    Make crumble rubbing butter and flour together until they resemble breadcrumbs.

    Stir in brown sugar and ginger.

    Cut apple ( or rhubarb) and place in three or four ramekins or an oven proof dish.

    Make sure bottom of dish covered by the fruit.

    Sprinkle fruit with juice and zest of half a lemon (or orange if preferred) and golden caster sugar and a touch of ground cinnamon if liked

    Spread previously prepared crumble on top.

    Bake for 25 or 30 minutes at 190C until golden brown.

    Serve with yogurt, custard, cream....
