French Cheese Braid

- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 3/4 c. warm water
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 c. margarine or butter, softened
- 3 1/2 to 4 c. all-purpose flour
- 6 oz. Swiss cheese, diced (about 1 1/2 c.)
- vegetable oil
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 Tbsp. water
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl.

2Stir in sugar, salt, eggs, margarine and 2 cups of the flour.

3Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to make the dough easy to handle. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic.

4Place in greased bowl; turn greased side up.

5Cover. Let rise until double, 1 to 2 hours.

6Punch down dough, knead in cheese and divide into 3 equal parts.

7Roll each part into a rope, 15 inches long.

8Place ropes together on a greased cookie sheet. Braid ropes gently and loosely.

9Do not stretch.

10Pinch ends to fasten; tuck under.

11Brush with oil.

12Let rise 40 to 50 minutes. Heat oven to 375°.
