- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla or 1/2 teaspoon rum
- 8 slices bread
- sugar
- cinnamon
- bright red jelly

1Prepare pan or griddle for cooking.

2Beat eggs. Add milk, salt, and flavoring.

3The bread may be cut in rounds with a doughnut cutter.

4Dip bread into the mixture and place on griddle. Brown each side of the bread.

5Serve hot sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. Garnish with jelly or serve with pie cherries, sweetened, slightly thickened with cornstarch, and flavored with lemon; with applesauce flavored with cinnamon and cloves; or with maple syrup.
