Fried Apple Pies

Ingredients
- 2 c. stewed dried apples
- 1/4 c. sugar (use more to taste)
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg or cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/3 c. shortening
- ice water
- 3 c. shortening (for frying)
Directions

1Cook apples and stir in sugar, butter and spices; let cool. Combine flour, salt and shortening to make dough.

2Roll out 1/8-inch thick.

3Cut in 5-inch round (use saucer for pattern).

4Put filling on half of dough, staying 1/2-inch from edge of pastry. Brush edge with water and fold pastry in half.

5Seal edge with fork.

6Prick pies 2 to 3 times with fork.

7Fry in fat at 360° until brown.

8Drain on paper towel.
