- 4 c. sliced okra
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 c. corn meal
- 1 c. flour
- 1/2 c. shortening (for frying, unless for deep frying)
Directions

1Select young tender pods of okra.

2Wash, cut off ends and slice crosswise.

3Mix salt, pepper, meal and flour in a bag or bowl.

4Add okra and shake or stir until okra is covered with dry mixture.

5Have the shortening hot in a skillet.

6Add the okra. Cook until tender and browned, stirring occasionally.
