- 1 1/2 lb. fresh tender okra
- 3 Tbsp. cornmeal
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. pepper
- 4 Tbsp. shortening or bacon drippings
Directions

1Cut okra into about 1/4-inch slices.

2Mix cornmeal, flour, salt and pepper.

3Roll okra in mixture.

4Heat a heavy skillet with shortening in it.

5Have it very hot when you add okra.

6Leave on hot for about 2 to 3 minutes.

7Keep stirring and turn to low; let fry slowly.

8Every few minutes, stir to keep from sticking.

9Will take about 25 minutes to cook.

10Turn up heat last few minutes of cooking so will be crunchy.
