Ingredients

  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. Crisco
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 1 c. instant coffee (hot water from tap)
  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. raisins (soak in little hot water)

Directions

    Beat eggs and add sugar, shortening, molasses and coffee. Beat. Add other dry ingredients and spread in large cookie sheet, 1/2-inches thick, and bake for 18 to 20 minutes (toothpick test) at 375°.

    When cooled, frost with vanilla icing (powdered sugar and milk to consistency).
