Ingredients

  • 1 beef round steak (2 lb.; 1/2-inch thick)
  • 6 Polish sausages or Smok-Y-Links hot dogs
  • 2 Tbsp. lard
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (2 lb.) can sauerkraut
  • few caraway seed

Directions

    Pound steak to 1/4-inch thickness.

    Cut into 6 pieces; place sausage on each roll.

    Fasten with toothpicks.

    Brown meat slowly in lard; drain.

    Season with salt.

    Add onion, tomato sauce, caraway seed and 1/2 the liquid from sauerkraut.

    Cover tightly; cook slowly for 1 hour.

    Add sauerkraut; continue to simmer for 30 minutes, until tender.
