  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 4 oz. bar sweet cooking chocolate
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cup cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 egg whites (beat until stiff)

    Heat Oven to 350.

    Grease 3 8 or 9-inch round cake pans.

    In small bowl pour hot water over cooking chocolate.

    Stir until melted, let cool.

    In large bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add egg yolks one at a time, beating after each egg. Blend in chocolate and vanilla.

    Mix in flour, baking soda & salt alternately with buttermilk.

    Fold in egg whites.

    Bake 35-45 minutes until top springs back when touched with finger.

    Cool and top with pecan frosting.
