Ingredients
- 3/4 c. flour
- 1/4 c. wheat germ
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/3 c. boiling water
- 1/2 c. butter, divided
- 3/4 c. packed brown sugar
- 3 large tart apples
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
Directions

1Combine all dry ingredients.

2Stir well and set aside.

3Melt 1/4 cup butter and pour in 8-inch square pan.

4Sprinkle with brown sugar.

5Core, peel and halve apples crosswise.

6Arrange flat side down in pan.

7Cream together butter, sugar and egg until fluffy. Beat in molasses.

8Add to dry ingredients and boiling water.

9Mix only until blended and pour over apples.

10Bake in a preheated oven at 350° for 35 minutes.
