- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 cup butter at room temperature
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp. grated nutmeg
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Preheat oven to 325 degrees. With an electric mixer, cream 1/2 cup sugar, brown sugar and butter until light and fluffy.

2Add the egg and continue beating to blend well.

3Add the molasses. Mix the dry ingredients together in another bowl,

4then add to the butter mixture.

5Refrigerate for 30 minutes.

6Place the remaining sugar in a shallow dish.

7Roll tablespoonfuls of the dough into balls, then roll the balls in the sugar to coat.

8Place the balls 2 inches apart on the cookie sheets and flatten slightly.

9Bake until golden around the edges but soft in the middle, 12-15 minutes.

10Let stand for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack to cool.
