- 3/4 c. solid vegetable shortening
- 1 c. firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/2 to 1 c. chopped nuts
- 1/2 to 1 c. chocolate bits
Directions

1In a large mixing bowl, combine the shortening, brown sugar, egg, molasses, flour, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon and ginger; mix well.

2I also add nuts and chocolate.

3Roll dough into balls using 1 teaspoon of dough.

4Place balls on greased baking sheet. Flatten with the bottom of a glass dipped in white sugar.

5Bake in preheated 375° oven for 8 minutes or until done.
