Ingredients
- 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1 c. water
- 1/2 c. butter flavored shortening or margarine
- 1/2 c. molasses
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 c. chopped walnuts or almonds
Directions

1In a large mixer bowl, mix 1 cup of flour, sugar, ginger, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda and salt.

2Add water, shortening or margarine and molasses.

3Beat with electric mixer on low speed until blended, then on high speed for 2 minutes.

4Add remaining flour and eggs; beat until blended.

5Stir in nuts. Pour into greased pan.

6Bake in a 350° oven for 20 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

7Cool for 10 minutes on wire rack.
