- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. dark molasses, dissolved in 1 c. hot water
Directions

1Pour molasses and hot water into big mixing bowl.

2Add shortening, sugar and beaten egg to molasses mixture.

3Beat well. Add dry ingredients, a little at a time, mixing well.

4Bake in greased pans, 9 x 11-inches or 2 round pans at 375° until done, usually 30 to 35 minutes.

5Serve warm with whipped topping or ice cream.
