- cooking spray
- 1 12 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 12 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 14 cup cold butter, cut into small pieces
- 14 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons molasses
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 34 teaspoon salt
Directions

1Coat the BOTTOM ONLY of a 9 in square pan(or other pan) with cooking spray.

2Mix the flour, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl.

3Cut in the butter and shortening to make a crumbly mixture.

4Scoop out 1/4 cup of this mixture and set aside.

5Stir egg and molasses into the mixture.

6Add buttermilk, baking soda and salt.

7Stir until well combined (there will be some lumps).

8Pour into prepared pan.

9Sprinkle reserved mixture evenly over top.

10Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean in preheated oven at 350 degrees.
