- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. molasses
- 1 c. hot water
Directions

1Cream together the shortening and sugar.

2Add egg; beat well. Sift together dry ingredients.

3Combine molasses and water; add alternately with flour mixture.

4Line an 8 x 8 x 2-inch greased pan with greased wax paper.

5Pour batter.

6Bake at 350° for 50 to 60 minutes.

7Cool 5 minutes; remove from pan.
