  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 egg
  • sugar

Directions

    Cream together shortening and 1 cup sugar in bowl. Beat until light and fluffy. Blend in egg and molasses. Add dry ingredients. Blend well. Shape dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. Roll in sugar. Place balls about 2-inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375° for 12 minutes; makes 3 1/2 dozen.
