  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 1 c. light brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • sugar (for top)

Directions

    Cream butter with brown sugar until light and fluffy.

    Add molasses and egg.

    Beat well.

    Sift flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and cloves.

    Add flour mixture to batter and beat well. Roll into 1-inch balls.

    Dip ball into sugar and arrange, sugar side up, 2-inches apart on greased cookie sheet.

    Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes until cracked on top.
