  • 1 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted before measuring
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ginger

Directions

    Cream sugar and shortening; add molasses and beaten egg. Beat thoroughly. Sift flour with soda, salt and spices. Add to the creamed mixture and blend well. Roll between palms into walnut sized balls; roll in the sugar and squish. Bake at 375° for 15 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen.
