- 6 tablespoons butter or shortening
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions

1Beat butter with sugar until light.

2Mix in molasses and egg.

3Sift dry ingredients and add to wet mixture.

4Mix well.

5Chill in freezer 1 hour or in refrigerator 2 hours.

6Heat oven to 350°F.

7Roll into 1-inch balls and dip in sugar.

8Baked on greased baking sheet 10-12 minutes.

9Cool.
