- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup butter or 1 cup shortening
- 1 tablespoon baking soda, dissolved in small amount water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon ginger
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 34 cups flour (approx.)
Directions

1Heat molasses to the boiling point, add sugar.

2Remove from the stove, add shortening and dissolve baking soda.

5Sift dry ingredients and stir.

6Add more flour in necessary.

7Chill and roll out (1/8-inch).

8cut in desired shapes or roll as refrigerated cookies; allow to stand in refrigerator for 24 hours and slice.

9Bake at 375F until golden brown - 10-12 minutes.
