- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup grits Albers or Quakers Oats
- 1/2 tablespoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Directions

1Bring to a boil the water with the salt in a medium sauce pan.

2Add the grits and stir so no lumps will be produced.

3Cover the pan, reduce the heat to low.

4Stir occasionally and cook for 5 to 6 minutes.

5If too thick add more water.

6The grits should not feel gritty when tasted.

7Add the butter and mix well.

8Add the cheddar cheese and mix well.

9At this point I like to remove them from the heat, cover them and let them rest for a minute or so.
