- 1 1/2 c. butter
- 2 1/2 c. sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 4 c. flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. mace
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 c. milk
- juice and rind of 1 lemon
- 4 egg whites, beaten
- 1 c. nuts
- 1 c. raisins (optional)
Directions

1Beat first 3 ingredients with electric mixer 15 minutes or by hand 30 minutes.

2Add flour sifted with mace and baking powder, alternately with milk.

3Add juice and rind of lemon, then vanilla, the 4 egg whites (beaten stiff), nuts and raisins.

4Bake in your beautiful Gugelhopf pan at 400° for 15 minutes, then 350° for 1 hour.
