- 4 1/2 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 pkg. dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. buttermilk
- melted butter
- sliced ham
Directions

1Combine first 5 ingredients.

2Mix well.

3Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in water.

4Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to flour mixture, mixing well. Turn dough out on a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic (about 8 to 10 minutes). Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and brush with melted butter.

5Cut with 2-inch biscuit cutter and place 1/2-inch apart on greased baking dish.

6Fill with sliced ham.

7Top each with a second biscuit. Bake at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes.

8Yields about 3 dozen.
