Hamburger Rolls With Tomatoes

- 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
- dash of pepper
- 1 egg, beaten with 1 Tbsp. milk
- 2 1/2 c. tomatoes (fresh or canned)
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. milk or water
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 medium onion, sliced
Directions

1Mix meat with salt, pepper and water.

2Form into barrel shaped rolls.

3Dip into egg which has been beaten with the 1 tablespoon milk.

4Roll in bread crumbs.

5Heat shortening in heavy skillet and brown rolls on all sides.

6Rub tomatoes through sieve and pour over rolls.

7Add onion; cover and simmer 20 to 25 minutes, turning occasionally.

8Serve hot with the tomato sauce poured over the rolls.

9Makes 5 servings.
