Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 c. fine chopped onion
  • 1 large clove garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 1/2 c. (12 oz.) tomato paste
  • 5 c. tomatoes (2 large cans)
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. dried basil, crumbled
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano, crumbled
  • 8 oz. lasagna
  • 1 lb. Ricotta or cottage cheese (I use both)
  • 12 oz. Swiss cheese
  • 2/3 c. grated Parmesan
  • 2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Melt butter or margarine in large skillet or Dutch oven.

    Add onion and garlic and cook gently about 5 minutes.

    Add ground beef.

    Cook slowly, stirring frequently, until all red color disappears from meat.

    Stir in tomato paste, tomatoes, salt, pepper, basil and oregano.

    Simmer, stirring occasionally, 30 to 35 minutes.
