  • 1 pound grnd beef
  • 2 cans beef broth soup
  • 3 c. water
  • 1 can (16 ounce.) tomatoes, cut up
  • 2 med. onions, minced (1 c.)
  • 2 med. carrots, sliced (1 c.)
  • 2 stalks celery, minced (1 c.)
  • 1/3 c. pearl barley
  • 1/4 c. catsup
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon dry basil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

    Brown beef in large saucepan, stirring slightly to break up larger pcs.

    Drain off excess fat.

    Add in water, undrained tomatoes, onion, carrot, celery, barley, catsup, salt, canned soup and bay leaf.

    Bring to a boil and simmer for 1 hour or possibly till vegetables are tender.

    Season to taste and remove bay leaf.
