Herbed Beer Bread

- 3 c. self-rising flour
- 3 Tbsp. granulated sugar
- 1 Tbsp. dried Italian herbs or 1 tsp. each oregano, basil and thyme
- 12 oz. beer (at room temperature)
- 1/2 c. Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 3 Tbsp. cornmeal
- 2 Tbsp. soft butter or margarine
Directions

1In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cheese and dried herbs. Mix well to combine. Stir in the room temperature beer to produce a stiff batter.

2Preheat oven to 325°.

3Grease a loaf pan with the shortening and sprinkle bottom and sides with the cornmeal. Turn batter into pan.

4Bake at 325° for about 65 minutes. Brush baked loaf with softened butter and sprinkle with additional cornmeal, if desired. Turn out and cool on rack.
