Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. hot bulk pork sausage
  • 1 c. chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 (6 oz.) can sliced mushrooms, drained
  • 1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dried whole oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. ground thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt to taste
  • Hot cooked spaghetti

Directions

    Combine ground beef, sausage, onion, and garlic in a Dutch oven; cook until meat is browned, stirring to crumble meat.

    Drain off drippings.

    Add remaining ingredients except spaghetti; bring to a boil.

    Cover, reduce heat and simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

    Uncover and simmer an additional hour, stirring occasionally.

    Remove bay leaf, and spoon over spaghetti.

    Yield: 10 cups.
