- 34 cup vegetable shortening (not butter)
- 34 cup granulated sugar
- 34 cup brown sugar
- 3 cups flour
- 2 eggs, beaten-save 1 tablespoon to brush on top of bars
- 12 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 12 teaspoon ginger
- 14 cup molasses
- 18 cup water
- 1 cup raisins (more if you wish)
- 1 cup broken nuts (usually walnuts)
Directions

1.Cream shortening with sugars.

2Add eggs (save 1 tablespoon for tops).

3Add dry ingredients alternately with liquids.

4Add nuts and raisins.

5Divide dough into thirds.

6Spread into strips about 3 inches wide down a large greased cookie sheet.

7Shape strips evenly.

8space apart to allow for spreading.

9Using fingers or a brush, brush each strip with reserved egg.

10Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minute Bars will be soft.

11Cool for at least 10 minute Cut into bars.

12To keep soft put in airtight container.
