- 2 c. white sugar
- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 1 c. sweet milk
- 3 c. cake flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. orange flavoring
- 1 c. hickory nuts
- whites of 8 eggs
Directions

1Cream butter and sugar thoroughly.

2This should be very fluffy for fine texture.

3Add the dry ingredients alternating with milk all but about 1/2 cup.

4Mix nuts in remaining dry ingredients and fold into batter.

5Add flavoring and fold in beaten egg whites. Generously grease and flour 2 (8 1/2-inch) cake pans.

6Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes.

7Cool layers for 10 minutes.

8Remove from pan.
