- 1/2 c. butter and shortening (about half and half)
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 c. cake flour
- 1 c. hickory nuts, chopped
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. milk
- 4 egg whites, beaten stiff
Directions

1Cream butter, sugar and vanilla until fluffy.

2Sift flour, baking powder and salt.

3Add alternately with the milk to creamed mixture.

4Beat until smooth.

5Fold in nuts and egg whites.

6Pour into 2 greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pans.

7Bake at 350° for 35 minutes. Cool.

8Before serving, put layers together and frost with sweetened whipped cream.

9Sprinkle with chopped hickory nuts.
