Ingredients

  • 3 jelly glasses lukewarm water
  • 1 tsp. dry yeast (double in winter)
  • 1 heaping Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. Wesson oil
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 3 sifters flour (amount varies)

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in one glass of water.

    Let stand 5 minutes. Add salt, sugar, oil and remainder of water.

    Add first two sifters of flour.

    Can be stirred in with a spoon.

    Then knead until it is not sticky.

    May have to add more flour.

    Cover with Crisco and let rise until doubled in bowl.

    Knead down.

    Divide into 3 equal loaves.

    Put in 3 bread pans and again cover with light coat of Crisco.

    When doubled in size bake at 400° for 15 minutes.

    Reduce to 350° and continue baking for 30 minutes.

    Turn out on cooling rack.

    For a tough crust, dampen crust with water.
